Daphne Guinness

Known for her couture, the English heiress Daphne Guinness is less often recognized for her early operatic training, but in a few videos created with London’s Showstudio she interprets certain passages from the traditional corpus in a striking manner. Now, while by themselves these short pieces are not quite sufficient for a playlist, her readiness to assist others in their work is impressive, and in part for this reason I’ve gone and made one: it includes a recording from one of her engagements, when, earlier this year, rather spontaneously, evidently, she joined the New York band Element 4 at a gig on the Lower East Side. Certain obvious and insignificant imperfections aside, her performance – fortunately captured on video – ought to circulate.
